Poll Results: What Black Women Are Focused on in 2026

Hey Reader,

Before you jump back into the work cycle - I wanted to share a quick priority check.

Last week, I shared a community poll question and the responses showed me what black women in midlife are most focused on this year. Check it out:

What I hear clearly is this: Black women in midlife are no longer chasing shiny goals. You are focused on stability and sustainability.

  • Your body came first. Not weight loss for aesthetics, but health. Energy. Sleep. Relief.
  • Your finances came next. Not wealth for status, but security. Choice. Breathing room.
  • Stress and work fulfillment followed, not because they don’t matter, but because many of you are already carrying more than your fair share in those areas.

And the broader context matters.

We’re entering 2026 after years of economic uncertainty, workforce disruption, caregiving overload, and a healthcare system that has repeatedly failed Black women, especially in midlife.

Headlines continue to confirm what many of you already know in your bones: Black women are working harder, earning less relative to effort, carrying more family responsibility, and navigating major physical transitions with minimal support.

Add menopause or perimenopause to that mix, and suddenly the priorities make perfect sense.

When your hormones are shifting, your sleep is disrupted, your energy is inconsistent, and your focus feels unreliable, everything else becomes harder. Career decisions feel riskier. Financial planning feels heavier. Stress compounds faster.

This is why I keep saying this season isn’t about pushing harder. It’s about getting better information, better support, and better tools so your goals don’t keep getting deferred.

You are not asking for too much.
You are asking for alignment.

And alignment starts with your body.

If 2026 is going to look different, we have to address what’s underneath the goals on the vision board.

And you don’t have to do that alone.

The Quiet Collapse of Black Studies in Higher Education It began with DEI. Across the country, universities restructured diversity offices. Vice presidents reassigned. Chief Diversity Officers stepped down. Entire teams let go or absorbed into other units. At first, many described it as budget tightening. Political pressure. Administrative reshuffling. But what we are witnessing now suggests something more structural. The target has shifted. Now it is African American Studies. Gender Studies....

Hey Reader, do any of these sound familiar? You are on the phone with your mom, who's confused about her next doctor's appointment. You are trying to stay calm while mentally preparing for your next meeting or deadline. You grab a Snickers at your desk because there is no time for a real lunch. Your stomach is growling. Your energy is crashing. Your migraine is hammering But you keep working. You are cooking dinner while helping with homework, your phone buzzing with work texts, the stove...

Hi Reader, Can I be honest with you? You're tired. Not the kind of tired that sleep fixes. The kind that sits in your bones after years of being the one who holds it all together. The one who figures it out. The one who never gets to say "I don't know what to do" out loud because everyone is looking to you for answers. You've built something impressive. You've pushed through seasons that would have broken other people. And you've done most of it alone. But lately, something feels different....
